Performing Trade-Off Studies MBSE

Trade-off study is a common task in a daily routine of Systems Engineer. It is used to compare a number of alternative solutions to see whether and how well they satisfy a particular set of criteria. Each solution is characterized by a set of measurements of effectiveness that corresponds to the evaluation criteria and has a calculatable value or value disrtibution. Measurements of effectiveness of a given solution are evaluated using an objective function, and the results for each alternative are compared to select a preferred one.

This webinar demonstrates how to perform a parametric trade-off study by using SysML as modeling language and tools like Cameo Systems Modeler (with Cameo Simulation Toolkit included).

Performing Trade-Off Studies

Zilvinas is a Solution Architect with No Magic, Inc. and has been in this role since 2015. He is responsible of delivering various modeling solutions and trainings to No Magic clients. Zilvinas specializes in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) with a unique focus on executable models. Zilvinas is working with companies such as Bombardier Transportation, Deutsche Bahn, Renault-Nissan, Siemens, SAIC, etc.

Before joining the Solution Architect team at No Magic, Zilvinas worked more than five years as a Process and Electronics Engineer in Electronics manufacturing industry. In these positions, he was responsible of supporting and maintaining manufacturing equipment, also for developing new electronic products. Zilvinas holds a Master degree in Economics, also a Bachelor degree in Electronics Engineering from Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) and is an OMG certified systems modeling professional (OCSMP).

UAF for Industrial IoT MBSE

Lina Bisikirskiene is the CEA Product Manager in the No Magic R&D team. Her major expertise areas are model-based enterprise architecture solutions and business process modeling techniques.

Lina is the manager of the Cameo Enterprise Architecture product, which is one of the main products in the No Magic product line. Lina Bisikirskiene holds a PhD in Informatics Engineering in Kaunas University of Technology. She actively participates in educational and consultancy activities. Lina is an author of multiple articles and speaker in multiple conferences.

She is OMG Certified UML Professional, OMG Certified Expert in BPM, ITIL V3, and OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional.

Saulius has 15 years of experience working on modeling solutions. His major expertise areas are model-based requirements engineering, data interchange, systems design, MBSE, PLM, SysML, UML, traceability, simulation, modeling solutions, change and configuration management. Saulius works with companies from countries around the globe: Ford, Rivian Automotive, Abbott, SMEE, Raytheon, UTAS, NYTA, SGT, BAH, NASA, Orbital ATK, MITRE, Australian Deffence.

A long-time No Magic employee Tomas has an extensive and varied knowledge of various MagicDraw functionalities, UML modeling, and profile building. As a senior systems analyst, he helps to shape future MagicDraw versions, works with multiple customers (including GE Transportation, Ford, Nokia, Europcar) and is active in standards-making organizations (OMG).

Being a "father" of structured expressions functionality, Tomas is a go-to person to learn about making and putting to use complex expressions.

Tomas holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Kaunas University of Technology and is an OMG-Certified UML Professional.


Generating Reports from Model Data MBSE

Reports are one of the most important artifacts produced from the model. They can represent any fragment or viewpoint of the model, for example, requirements list, architecture and/or behavior of some system component, results of trade-off analysis, etc. Both the contents and structure of the report are defined in the report template.

Cameo Systems Modeler offers a wide variety of predefined templates for generating reports of different types: textual documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc. Furthermore, the tool allows to create custom templates, which is a common case as in real life organizations have specific needs for report structure, contents, layout, and format.

Knowledge of the Velocity Template Language (VTL) used within report templates is necessary for understanding, editing, or creating templates.

The session demonstrates
  • Creating templates for Microsoft® Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Creating XML templates for interchanging data between modeling tools
  • Using VTL in combination with scripts to develop advanced templates

Edgaras is Oracle-Certified Java SE 6 Programmer and OMG-Certified UML Professional Modeler.

He has been with No Magic Europe since late 2012. While contributing to the development of the Model-Based Systems Engineering environment, Edgaras has gained a lot of experience in systems and software engineering. He also provides professional services to Abbott, ACORD, DUO, Hospira, Ford, Nokia, Siemens, and other worldwide-known clients of No Magic, Inc.

Producing custom report templates is one of the strongest areas of Edgaras expertise. Besides professional services, he has delivered training courses and workshops on report templates development.

Edgaras holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Kaunas University of Technology.
